Kimberley approves minor zoning amendment to Central and Watkins development
MYEASTKOOTENAYNOW
The Central and Watkins development is one step closer to completion as Kimberley City Council approved a minor zoning amendment.
The amendment reduced the minimum allowable distance between buildings from five metres to three to accommodate the deck spaces planned for the development’s third building.

WorkSafeBC issues series of penalties to Okanagan builders
CASTANET
WorkSafeBC inspectors recently took a swing through the Okanagan and issued several penalties to builders for a lack of fall protection.
Falls from heights account for nearly 13 per cent of workplace serious injuries, according to WorkSafe. As a result, related penalties are some of the most common issued by the regulator.
FRS Framing Ltd. was penalized $2,500 on Nov. 21 after a visit to a West Kelowna job site. An inspector observed two workers standing on top of foundation wall formwork to place concrete, without fall protection and exposed to a 12-foot fall. |

Construction Plastic Initiative launches in B.C.
REMI NETWORK
Light House has launched a new initiative aimed at diverting and upcycling plastic waste from approximately 10 Metro Vancouver construction sites. The pilot program, The Construction Plastics Initiative, is running now until February 2026 and is actively seeking projects to bring on board.
The objective of the initiative is to demonstrate the feasibility and financial viability of a circular economic model for plastic waste generated on construction sites. The intention is to collect, separate, measure and process plastics from construction sites to determine the amount and types of plastic waste being generated in British Columbia’s construction sector and to demonstrate circular economic solutions to divert and repurpose the plastic into new products. Project participants will be able to showcase their leadership by pioneering plastic diversion and using the locally manufactured building products in their projects.
