B.C. construction industry braces for fallout from tariffs

Although Canada was spared the worst of U.S. President Donald Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs on Wednesday, the B.C. construction industry is in no mood to celebrate. 


“It’s interesting because it seems like a lot of people breathed a sigh of relief, in that there was some measure of reprieve because we weren’t on that whiteboard list that was presented in the Rose Garden,” said Chris Atchison, president of the BC Construction Association.

WorkSafeBC urges fall protection for construction workers

RICHMOND — WorkSafeBC is urging builders to take steps to prevent workers from falling on construction sites after more than 1,000 injuries were reported in the province last year.


It says it also issued more than $1 million in fines for 152 administrative penalties against employers for inadequate fall protection after accidents.


The workers' safety and compensation agency says the warning comes as outdoor construction ramps up in April.

Kelowna company to build Vernon cultural centre

A Kelowna company with its blueprints and handprints cemented in Okanagan projects has been hired as the construction manager for the Greater Vernon Cultural Centre.


Sawchuk Developments will manage the construction of the cultural centre, a much-anticipated phase of the project that is expected to begin later this year.
