I am CAM
If you’re connected with CAM socially, you may have seen our new reel “I am CAM” that first appeared on Professional Movers Day, May 19th. A gigantic thank you to Mark Hirschi, CAM Board Member and owner of Salmon’s Moving in Richmond for producing this fantastic piece we can be proud of. And thanks to all the members who provided their short reels.
We want to do more!
I have talked ideas with several of you and look forward to seeing your final clips. It doesn’t have to be fancy or elaborate. Sometimes the spur-of-the-moment ones are best. The main point is that we want to show the public the face of CAM this summer. And not just movers … suppliers and partners, get in on this too! Just send your reel to me.
|
|
|
Why is it important to be seen? Last summer, we had an average of 14,504 visits to our member directory each month and our ever-growing social media directs people to www.mover.net/find-a-mover. These visits aren’t just for the fun of it … they’re looking for trusted and reliable movers and CAM members like you!
I am CAM. You are CAM. We are CAM. Let’s be proud and shout it from the rooftops!
Something else we need to honour and recognize are those who provide excellence as movers. We’ve had incredible honourees in the past and we want to continue to acknowledge members, and their people, for the work they do to improve the moving industry.
Nominations for our annual CAM Awards are available now until our August 31st deadline.
I know it’s a busy time of year to be asking for this, so why not fill your nominations out now? Our Awards Committee will review all the entries and announce our honour roll in mid-September. Awardees will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 18th at our annual awards banquet in Kingston. More information is below.
Finally, if you attended CAM2024 in Mississauga, you were present for a major turning point in Canadian moving. At times, as I’ve noted before, you couldn’t hear yourself think from the buzz on the conference floor, nor get out of the way fast enough of many of the attendees who were putting their newfound skills into capturing live clips or photos of their experiences at the conference for their social media feeds. There were bodies moving everywhere. It was fabulous!
I’ve heard from many of our more seasoned movers that our industry was famous for staying within our own pack and van line. Territories were deeply entrenched. Today’s mover knows the value and importance of casting a wide net and growing their network to include non-traditional cohorts to share insights and collaborate so that both partners can thrive, leading to additional work and opportunities.
Many think that the whole point of CAM is to provide leads. Yes, we still do that, but more and more our role is to educate and provide a mechanism through which your company can thrive. And suppliers are helping with that connection.
In recent weeks, born partly out of the camaraderie of CAM2024, two Mover Masterminds in Winnipeg and Vancouver have met informally to connect, collaborate and learn with others from the moving industry. Those organizers and CAM would love to see Masterminds pop up throughout the country. It’s such a great opportunity to just meet movers and suppliers in your area that you can count on. Maybe not for now (it is “silly season” after all), but this is certainly something to consider starting in your hood later in the summer or the fall. We can help you arrange it and connect you with the right people if you think that your nucleus would like to grow.
We are better together.
My best advice for this summer is to not overbook and under-provide. We all know how that ends. If you need help this summer with 3rd partying or other servicing, consult www.mover.net/find-a-mover and see what other fabulous CAM members are close by. We’d be happy to make introductions as well.
Wishing all of you a smooth summer.

CAM Award Nominations Now Open! |
|
|
For 25 years CAM has been recognizing excellence in the moving industry. Whether it’s a long-time high-profile employee, someone behind the scenes who has dedicated their work-life to the betterment of the industry, or a moving company that has gone beyond the call of duty to help their community, our Associ-ation wants to acknowledge people who should be recognized for their work to improve the moving in-dustry.
|
|
|
There are several categories of awards. Our Awards Committee reviews all nominations and selects the deserving recipients each year. Please note that not every category is automatically awarded each year.
• Mover of the Year recognizing a prominent CAM mover member who demonstrates outstanding corporate citizenship and customer service excellence. The mover can either be an agent of a van line or an independent.

• Industry Leadership recognizes an individual who demonstrates leadership and serves as an inspiration to others.
• Influencer celebrating a promising young professional (under the age of 40) in the moving industry who embodies a commitment to business growth, professional excellence, and the future of the industry and community.

Important CAM Code of Ethics Reminder |
|
|
…about lead referrals and 3rd party service-providers
You may have an occasion where you cannot handle a moving referral given to you by CAM and want to pass it along to another mover. When referring a lead from CAM, please try to use an accredited CAM member for all origin and destination services. You can check to see if they are a CAM member by entering their name in the Member Directory search box on CAM’s website. Or you can check for a local CAM member through our “find a mover” search function.
|
|
|
If you are unable to use an accredited CAM member, as per the code of ethics you signed as a mover member, you must advise the customer that their household goods and personal effects are being moved by a company that is not a CAM-accredited member and therefore not subject to CAM’s operating standards and practices.
We’ve had a couple of situations come up, in recent times, where there has been confusion for the customer because there was damage during the move and they want CAM to resolve the situation, even though the move was subcontracted out to a non-CAM member. Please be upfront with your customers if you are not going to service the job yourself.
|
|
|
|
 |
We’re pleased to announce that two new members have joined our CAM family.

What’s your reputation online? You think you know, but you may be surprised what’s being said about you from remote sources you weren’t even aware of. Take a minute (literally) and do this exercise.
Go into your favourite AI source, for example www.chatgpt.com or, our favourite, www.perplexity.ai and type in:
“Tell me what you know about [insert your company name here] including strengths and weaknesses using reviews, complaints, comments and other resources including media.”

The 6 Cornerstone Principles of Effective Listening
Paul Petrone, LinkedIn April 21, 2025
At a time when attention spans are those of a multi-tasking Tse Tse fly, this short LinkedIn article is a good reminder of effective listening.
It won’t be surprising that many of us aren’t great listeners. Often, we fall into a trap of not listening at all or are just waiting for our chance to respond, instead of keeping quiet, paying attention, and listening to understand.
In short, here’s what you can do to hear better. Your customers and coworkers will appreciate it.
1. Give silence and space
2. Maintain eye contact
3. Be mindful of your body language
4. Show empathy by sharing your own missteps and failures
5. Ask open-ended questions
6. When you don’t agree, ask them to help you understand

Proven Tactics to Get Referrals |
|
|
Nothing beats word-of-mouth and referral leads. But what nobody tells you is that doing good work alone won’t get you all the referrals you could be getting. The best movers don’t hope and wait. They have tactics to keep referrals coming, over and over again.
CAM Supplier Supermove sat down with three industry titans who walked them through the real tactics those companies are using today. Supermove has rounded up the best ones for you here.

Your employees are the lifeblood of your organization. Their knowledge and expertise are crucial to your company’s success and it takes time and effort to amass both. The good news is that most employees are willing—even eager—to learn and grow professionally.
Investing in learning programs can help your organization and team members enjoy the many benefits of employee development.
In January, we began a 10-part series to help you elevate your team. It’s time for our final thoughts.
10. Final thoughts: Build an employee development program that works for your team
The benefits and importance of employee development are clear, but only three in 10 employees strongly agree that someone at work encourages their professional growth. This is a missed opportunity to elevate your team and make learning your competitive advantage.
Take the time to build a learning and development program that will help you overcome your business’s challenges and reach your organizational goals — whatever those may be. Prioritize the initiatives that will make the biggest impact and measure your progress so you can continue to justify your investment. Finally, adapt your initiatives as needed to ensure they continue to serve your team over time. Successful development programs need to evolve, just as organizations and teams do.
